WHAT IS IT?
Fat Cells are harvested from different parts of our body, then treated in a special way so that they will survive when transferred to selected parts of our Face or Body to build up the volume in those areas.
We now know that Human Fat contains many Growth Factors and Stem Cells which are capable of repairing tissues in our joints which have been damaged by arthritis or have worn out from sports injuries. So in selected cases Stem Cell Therapy is replacing surgery like Joint Replacement with prosthesis. Strictly Stem Cell Therapy is not Fat Transfer because the Fat Cells during the processing are ruptured and mostly what’s left are the Stem Cells which when injected into the joints develop into new cells with similar features as the damaged ones.
Where the main objective is collagen stimulation and skin rejuvenation in the face the fat harvested is processed in a different way and injected into the face. These Fat Cells are still intact and capable of staying alive in the new environment and are capable of improving the volume ie bulking up the areas where they are now transferred to. Sometimes PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is added to the Fat Cells to improve their survival in the targeted areas.
CAN I USE SOMEONE ELSE’S FAT?
No you can’t. Only you can donate the fat to yourself. Fat from another person will be rejected by your body
WHAT ARE THE COMMON AREAS WHERE FAT IS TRANSFERRED TO?
Fat can be transferred to any part of our body. Face, Breasts, Hands and Butts are the common areas.
Fat can be harvested from any part of the body. However, studies have shown that fat from parts of our body which we have been unable to get rid of by diet and exercise seem to survive longer after it has been transferred.
DOES IT REQUIRE MORE THAN ONE TREATMENT?
Not all the fat cells will survive after they have been transferred. So one must be prepared for 2-3 procedures 1-3 months apart to build up the desired volume.
