Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

The greatest advance today in this exciting area of medicine is the development of the Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber which provides you with all the benefits listed below in a safe predictable environment.

The beneficial effects of breathing in oxygen enriched air are:

  1. Stimulation of the body’s healing process
  2. Promotion of Relaxation
  3. Increasing Stamina & Endurance
  4. Helping the body to return to a State of Balance and Well Being
  5. Reducing Inflammation in tissues

The end result is that you get over and recover from your injuries faster be they be inflicted in sports, trauma, surgical procedures or certain illnesses.

What We Offer!

There are two types of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy – The Low Pressure Ones commonly referred to as Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy and the High Pressure Ones which are commonly used in the major hospitals.

In the Ashbrooke Cosmetic Surgery we offer the Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy where the Oxygen Chamber is pressurised to 1.3 Atmospheric Pressure.

How It Works!

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy involves breathing in concentrated oxygen in a pressurised chamber and is used in speeding up recovery following Sports Injuries by aiding muscle healing, after any kind of surgical procedures, speeding up the recovery and reducing the bruising after Liposuction.  It has also been found to be able to improve conditions like Autism in Children, Cerebral Palsy, and Traumatic Brain Injuries after Strokes, Inflammatory Conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis and can even treat Jet Lag or general tiredness.

The treatment results in the increased uptake of Oxygen into the Red Blood Cells and the Plasma in your Blood Stream allowing the increased oxygen to penetrate deeply into the body’s tissues. In essence, Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy accelerates the healing process, strengthens and normalises the immune system and allows body functions to improve. It has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect on the cells. So it is useful in the treatment of Skin Ulcers, Diabetic Ulcers & Burns by encouraging the growth of small capillaries back into the tissues.

For conditions like Jet Lag you will only need 1-2 treatments. For Post Liposuction cases you may need 3-4 treatments. For Sport Injuries and After Surgical Procedures more treatments are required. In Chronic Conditions like Autism & Strokes long term continuing treatments are normal.

Each treatment lasts an hour. The space inside allows a child to lie down with an adult quite comfortably.

Treatment packages are available for short and long term situations at very reasonable costs.

Are there people who are not suitable for this treatment?

The chamber is not very big even though it is comfortable inside. So if you suffer from claustrophobia it is not for you.

Pain from Sinusitis and Head Colds

You should NOT have a treatment if you are suffering from any congestion in the head. It will result in pain in the ears.

However, even when you are well, it is normal to feel an aching in the ear initially when you are placed in the chamber as the pressure builds up. You will relieve this by swallowing a few times like when you are in the aeroplane as it takes off. If the discomfort continues you MUST communicate with the staff who will depressurise the chamber to alleviate the discomfort. You will always be able to communicate with the staff whenever you are in the chamber.
