ACTIVE ACNE & LED LOW LEVEL LIGHT THERAPY (LLLT)

Active Acne not responding well to long term antibiotics can be improved with the addition of Blue Light LED Therapy which has a wavelength of  400-495 nm. P. Acnes is the acne causing bacteria that can stay in your sebaceous (oily) glands in your skin causing breakouts. Blue Light is able to kill this bacteria and control the breakouts.

Sometimes the Red Light is also used in addition to the Blue Light  because the Red Light assists the Blue Light in killing the bacteria P. Acnes as well as reducing inflammation and improving healing through increase blood flow & stimulating collagen & Fibroblast  production.

So for those of you who have been on oral antibiotics and would like to move away from using them for the long term and for those who want to see if they can avoid going on to Roaccutane it is definitely worth giving LED Light Therapy a trial. It is painless and there are no visible signs in the face of even any redness following each treatment. A truly Walk In Walk Out procedure taking 30 mins and can be done anytime of the day and you can go back to work immediately or resume all kinds of normal activities.

Acne Scars and Facial Needling

Despite the many cosmetic procedures available, improving the appearance of the skin damaged by scarring after severe acne or chicken pox, or improving the skin associated with deep wrinkles, has always been a challenge. Procedures such as deep chemical peels, dermabrasion (different from microdermabrasion) and laser resurfacing have offered disappointing results, especially for scarring associated with acne. At the same time, they are expensive and involve long recovery times. Laser treatments also carry the risk of pigment changes in the skin following treatment. Facial needling has been successful in reducing the depth of the scars associated with severe acne. Several treatments are necessary to produce optimum results. It is a low cost procedure and more importantly is associated with less down time than resurfacing with Lasers. Facial Needling is also ideal for improving the texture of facial skin, reducing pore sizes and tightening the skin .

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

When it comes to Acne Scars prevention is definitely better than cure because once you have ended up with pitted scars it is not easy to get rid of them. Always time consuming. Costly. Results are unpredictable.

Prevention means long term management with your GP and sometimes with the help of the Dermatologist & Cosmetic Physicians like us.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO NOW THAT I HAVE PITTED SCARS?

If Lasers and Skin Needling are not able to help and you are left with pitted scars the last resort is to fill the scars individually with a dermal product. This will have to be repeated every 6-12 months. It is costly and time consuming. Sometimes the deeper ones will need to be surgically undermined ie a sharp needle will need to be used to release the attachment under each scar to help the skin to pop up before the underpart can be filled with a dermal product to remove the pitting. Of course, a local anaesthetic may be required to minimise the discomfort.
